Training for the operation of warehouse stacker cranes

We would like to invite you to a training course preparing you for the UDT exam to become an operator of stacker cranes used in warehouses. Warehouse stacker cranes, due to their intended use, are one of the best equipment for use in logistics. More and more companies are making use of the possibilities offered by these machines to improve the efficiency of their warehouses. In our courses, we teach both theoretical and practical knowledge of their use.

Course of training

Training in the use of warehouse stacker cranes is an excellent opportunity for warehouse employees to acquire knowledge and skills in the correct operation of this type of equipment. During the training, participants learn how to operate the stacker cranes safely and how to stack and store goods correctly on the shelves. The training also includes elements on the organisation of work in the warehouse and inventory management. The knowledge and skills acquired during the warehouse stacker crane training course will enable employees to better perform their duties and ensure safety in the workplace.

What is a storage stacker crane?

stacker cranes in the warehouse

Warehouse stacker cranes are used to automate all the transport work taking place in warehouses. The stacker cranes move on special tracks between the racks and place the loads issued to them. They perform both loading and unloading, and can do all this completely automatically. A microprocessor, which can be programmed remotely, is responsible for all their operations. Their work is mainly picking up materials from the starting point and placing them on the racks, or the other way round, from the racks to the pick-up point.

WMS

WMS (warehouse management system) is a special computer software that handles all the operations carried out by the stacker cranes. This software commands their microprocessor and controls their operation.

Operating modes of stacker cranes

Three modes of operation of the stacker cranes can be distinguished:

  • manual - used during servicing,
  • semi-automatic - where a designated person enters the data into the stacker crane computer,
  • automatic - the most commonly used, operating completely remotely.

Division of warehouse stacker cranes

Stacker cranes can be divided into a couple of different categories.

In terms of design:

  • single-column,
  • two-column,
  • cranes,
  • suspended, with a turntable.

In terms of the gripping mechanism:

  • gripper,
  • conveyor,
  • pitchforks.

In terms of technical specifications, which include:

  • load capacity,
  • maximum load dimensions,
  • maximum height,
  • ejection and return speed,
  • travel speed of the stacker crane,
  • acceleration speed of working movements,
  • lifting and lowering speed.

Advantages of stacker cranes

  • automation of transport operations,
  • constant monitoring of the warehouse and its condition,
  • eliminating the problem that people can create,
  • possibility to agree on several different aspects of the work,
  • optimising the logistics process,
  • easy to operate and service,
  • increased safety at work.

Stacker cranes streamline warehouse operations and improve activities such as transporting loads to greater heights, shortening the entire handling cycle, or the ability to lift bulkier loads.

Questions and answers

What are warehouse stacker cranes used for?

Stacker cranes improve the efficiency of warehouses by automatically loading and unloading the materials stored in them.

Why become a warehouse stacker crane operator?
