Smoker course

The main tasks are the operation of boilers that supply heat, steam and hot water, among others for residential buildings, offices, clinics, hospitals and schools. Operation of large and complex boilers over 50 KW requires training. The job requires specialized knowledge and skills. Thanks to the CO smoker course, you can obtain thermal qualifications that are necessary to work in this position.

The work of the stoker does not only consist in supplying fuel to the boiler room, but in the entire process of controlling the boilers, e.g. starting, checking and monitoring pressure, temperature and other parameters.

After receiving the qualification certificate, we are entitled to work related to the operation of furnaces and central heating systems. There is a shortage of qualified specialists in this field on the labor market, which means that vacancies are waiting for employees.

We distinguish three groups of energy authorizations in the field of operation and supervision:

Group 1 (electrical) power installations and networks generating, converting, transmitting and consuming electricity:

  • Generating sets with a capacity of more than 50 KW
  • Electrothermal devices
  • Devices, installations and networks with a rated voltage above 1KW
  • Electricity equipment, installations and networks with a voltage of no more than 1KW
  • Generating devices connected to the national power grid
  • Control and measurement apparatus as well as automatic control devices and installations
  • Explosion-proof electrical devices
  • Electric traction network

Group 2 (heating)

equipment for processing, generating, transmitting and consuming heat and other energy equipment:

  • Industrial steam and hot water receiving devices, with a power above 50 KW
  • Control and measurement devices and automatic regulation devices for devices and installations
  • Industrial furnaces with a power above 50 KW
  • Heat networks and installations with auxiliary devices with a capacity of more than 50KW
  • Industrial steam and hot water receiving devices, with a power above 50 KW
  • Ventilation and cooling air-conditioning devices with a capacity of more than 50 KW
  • Pumps, suction cups, fans and blowers with a power above 50 KW
  • Compressors with a power above 20 KW and compressed air and technical gas installations

Group 3 (gas)

Equipment, installations and gas networks producing, processing, transmitting, storing and consuming gaseous fuels:

  • Gas equipment and installations with a pressure not higher than 5KPA
  • Gas distribution networks with a pressure not higher than 0.5MPa
  • Equipment for processing and treatment of gaseous fuels, decomposition of gaseous fuels, gas purification, LPG bottling plants, mixing plants,
  • Gaseous fuel storage devices
  • Control and measurement apparatus, control devices for networks, devices and installations mentioned
  • Industrial receivers of gaseous fuels with a power above 50KW
  • Gas equipment and installations with a pressure above 5KPA

The responsibilities of the smoker

  • Control of auxiliary devices
  • Control of the operation of devices that clean and discharge exhaust fumes
  • Taking care of the good technical condition of boilers
  • Reading indications of specialized equipment
  • Reporting noticed defects to the supervisor
  • Supervision of technological processes

The condition for participation in the course is

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Education at least elementary

Subject

During our classes, we deal with many very interesting issues. The lecturers will tell, among others about:

  • Steam and water boilers,
  • Regulations on technical supervision,
  • General regulations,
  • Organization of work with thermal devices
  • Duties of a CO stoves smoker,
  • Selected information on thermal technology,
  • Diagrams of a central heating boiler house,
  • The importance of water in heat management,
  • General provisions
  • Operation of boilers,
  • Thermal networks and installations,
  • Solid and liquid fuels, control and measurement equipment,
  • Health and safety at thermal devices and at the position of a CO smoker,
  • Fire protection, first aid aspects,
  • industrial furnaces with a capacity of over 50 KW

Benefits of the course:

  • Increasing competitiveness on the labor market,
  • Attractive training prices,
  • Comprehensive theoretical and practical preparation of the participant for the exam before the qualification committee,
  • Additional facilities for training participants, e.g. organizing a medical examination
  • The form of service provision tailored to the client's needs
  • Guarantee of the highest quality services

Price

CO smokers' prices usually depend on the number of people participating in the training.

Purpose of the course

The course is a preparation for the exam. It makes it possible to obtain a qualification certificate authorizing to perform operational activities in maintenance, servicing, repair and assembly works on devices, installations and heat networks. We also prepare for the exam before an external committee. A positive result in the exam allows you to obtain a CO stoker qualification certificate in the operation of water and steam boilers.

Entitlements

The operation or installation of thermal devices with a capacity exceeding 50 KW requires special qualifications from the stoker, confirmed by a CO stoker qualification certificate - operation of water boilers. Acquired knowledge and practical skills are essential to pass the exam. The entitlements are valid for 5 years, after which they must be renewed.

Risks related to the exercise of the smoker profession

  • Workers operating the boilers work in a noisy environment, in a hot and humid microclimate, which can cause fatigue and general malaise
  • Employees operating the boilers work with various types of substances used in boilers (fuel, water additives), which can cause skin changes and disturb the functioning of the respiratory system and organs of vision.
  • The boilers operate under conditions of high temperature and pressure, which poses a risk of explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Combustion of fuel used in boilers can cause fires.

Preventive actions

  • Fall protection equipment should be used
  • Use hearing protection,
  • Hydrazine (a substance carcinogenic to humans) should be replaced with less hazardous substitutes
  • Periodically check and adjust the operation of the burners to prevent the formation of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxide and silica dust
  • Install effective general ventilation to prevent air pollution, and add local ventilation if necessary,
  • Wear a long-sleeved shirt and protective gloves against chemical agents, and if this is not possible, use barrier creams,
  • Use eye protection (safety goggles or welding goggles)
  • Periodic checks of boilers should be carried out in order to detect damage to components,
  • Appropriate safeguards (barriers, handrails) should be installed on landings and stairs to prevent falls from a height,
  • Use safe methods of lifting and carrying heavy or bulky loads, and use mechanical devices that facilitate lifting and carrying
  • Respiratory protection measures should be used during maintenance and other work during which dust may be released into the atmosphere
