Sandblaster-painter training

The aim of the offshore and onshore training course: sandblaster-painter is to acquire skills in painting and sandblasting techniques together with the operation of painting equipment. The course concludes with a theoretical and practical test, on the basis of which you will gain your NORSOK M-501 certificate. We will guide you smoothly through the training and examination process so that you can improve your qualifications in your profession. 

Course of training 

Offshore and onshore training is delivered in a theoretical and practical dimension, where the trainee learns about: 

  • fundamentals of corrosion protection processes and methods, 
  • surface preparation for sandblasting and painting, 
  • paint application, 
  • quality control of the work carried out, 
  • applicable health and safety rules. 

Thematic scope 

Students will be introduced to current topics in order to fully understand the current legislation. Topics such as:

  • Norsok M-501 certification, 
  • health and safety on the job, 
  • blast cleaning, 
  • checking the surface for painting, 
  • quality control of coatings, 
  • painting work: industrial painting equipment on the basis of the equipment indicated, 
  • spray painting, 
  • hand painting, 
  • manual cleaning, 
  • preparation of abrasive blasting equipment, 
  • preparing the equipment for painting, 
  • securing hard-to-reach areas. 

Learning outcomes 

By completing the training topics, the trainee demonstrates learning outcomes in terms of: 

  • knowledge of health and safety rules in the work of a sand painter, 
  • knowledge of the basics of corrosion formation, 
  • knowledge of methods for preparing surfaces for painting, 
  • knowledge of standards for the application of coatings and their control in the various stages of work, 
  • knowledge of surface cleanliness standards for painting, 
  • knowledge of selecting spray and hand painting equipment and accessories, 
  • knowledge of corrosion protection coating, 
  • knowledge of surface control methods prior to painting (ionic contamination, surface grease, dust), 
  • knowledge of paint control methods (checking wet and dry film thicknesses, assessing adhesion, visual assessment).  

Examination confirming qualifications 

One of the prerequisites for taking part in the course is the completion of a certification exam upon course completion. The exam consists of a theoretical part - verifying the trainees' knowledge - and a practical part - responsible for demonstrating the trainees' technical skills. A positive result of the exam makes it possible to obtain the NORSOK M-501 certificate.  

Conditions of participation 

To be eligible to take the course, prospective students are required to: 

  • be at least 18 years old, 
  • have no contraindications to the occupation of sandblaster-painter in the NORSOK M-501 standard.

The wages of a sand painter in the NORSOK M-501 standard are good. Earnings abroad - especially where sand-painters are in demand - are several times higher.

Offshore and Onshore: Sandblaster-Painter training in accordance with NORSOK M-501 is organised throughout Poland, including Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Katowice, Lublin, Lodz, Poznan, Gdansk and Szczecin. We also offer the course with travel to the client.

Questions and answers

Do you receive a certificate upon completion of the course?

Yes, once you have completed the training and passed the exam, you are awarded the NORSOK M-501 certificate. 

What are the wages of an onshore and offshore sand painter?

Sand painters earn a few thousand zlotys gross in Poland. Abroad, earnings are much higher - especially in Norway.
